We are currently looking for an experienced Facilities assistant to join our friendly and long-standing team. The details of the role are as follows:


Reporting to: Facilities Manager


Role: To provide efficient and effective maintenance support to the Facilities Manager including ensuring the security and general appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained in accordance with the required standards and that heating systems operate at optimum efficiency levels.


Other Considerations: The post holder will be expected to observe safe working practices when carrying out the required duties, ensuring that instructions specified by technical consultants, contractors and manufacturers are adhered to.


Duties and Responsibilities

To ensure heating plant and equipment is efficiently and effectively operated, make adjustments as necessary, reporting any defects or malfunctions to the Facilities Manager.


  1. To be responsible for maintaining the security of the premises and its contents in accordance with the company protocols.
  2. Replacing any faulty lamps in accordance with safe working practices.
  3. Organising the clearance of blockages from sinks, toilets, drains, kitchen grease traps etc.
  4. Ensuring gullies, drains etc. are kept free from debris and that the premises and grounds are litter free.
  5. To be responsible for ensuring clear and safe pedestrian access to the Premises particularly in adverse weather conditions (e.g. clearing snow, gritting etc.)
  6. To dispose of waste materials in a safe, hygienic manner ensuring that it is available for collection as required.
  7. To undertake porterage tasks as required including setting up and clearing away furniture.
  8. To undertake handypersons duties as directed by the Facilities Manager: 
  9. Painting and Decorating – as required
  10. Joinery- First line maintenance of fixtures and fittings, examples: tightening screws on window hinges, maintenance on door handles, minor repairs as a temporary measure.
  11. Plumbing- un-blocking sinks, traps and waste pipes. Adjustment and minor repairs of taps etc.
  12. To monitor stock levels of consumable items such as fuel, grit, lamps and arrange to replenish supplies in accordance with current procedures. 
  13. To maintain appropriate records including service request repairs, and heating system records book, water testing, carrying out meter readings for the Site. 
  14. To report emergencies in the case of faults with gas, electric and water supply to the Facilities Manager, or where not immediately available M&E contractor. 
  15. To attend to, where necessary, personnel visiting the site such as contractors. 
  16. To comply with the requirements of Health and Safety, other relevant legislation and Company policy and procedures: carry out weekly fire alarm tests, and assist with evacuation procedures. 
  17. To carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job.
